A year ago, the Paul Mellon Centre has the pleasure of being host to British naturalist, broadcaster and documentary film maker Sir David Attenborough when he visited the Center to be presented with the Verril Medal by the curators of the Yale Peabody Museum of Natural History. Attenborough was among five luminaries in the fields of natural history and natural science to be named winners of the award.
As Attenborough was unable to attend the ceremony in November, the Director of the Peabody Museum David Skelly travelled to London to present the award at a small ceremony and lunch which took place at the Paul Mellon Centre. David Skelly stated that David Attenborough has done 'all that he can to elevate public understanding of the issue of biodiversity and its consequences so that we can focus on making the best decisions possible'.
David Attenborough was also warmly welcomed by the staff here at the Centre when he even popped in to tea!
