• 11 Apr 2016

We are delighted to announce that our online journal British Art Studies has won the People's Choice GLAMi award

GLAMi People's Choice Award for British Art Studies British Art Studies, a recently launched online journal jointly published by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art (PMC) and the Yale Center for British Art, has won a major industry award.

At the 20th annual Museums and the Web conference, held in Los Angeles in early April, Tom Scutt, Digital Manager at the PMC, accepted the “People’s Choice” Innovation award on behalf of the journal. British Art Studies has been recognized by the online community of museums and galleries after just two issues. The journal is one of the pioneering digital publications created to challenge conventional assumptions, policies and practices. The publication is committed to shaping, provoking, and stimulating the ways in which the history of British art and architecture is studied and discussed in the future. The editorial board, a transatlantic effort, is led by Sarah Turner, Deputy Director for Research at the PMC, and the Center’s Martina Droth, Deputy Director of Research and Education, and Curator of Sculpture, and aims to expand the field of British art, representing a broad community of scholars and a wide realm of subject matter.

Museums and the Web, an annual conference, features advanced research and exemplary applications of digital practices for cultural, natural, and scientific preservation and education. The awards were created in 1997 and recognize innovation in the cultural sector. The organizers applauded the journal’s use of non-traditional formats to expand research and its community of scholars stating, “This project addresses one of the central problems of academia today. It’s not a sexy problem but it is a dangerous and important one.” For more information on the conference and its awards, visit http://mw2016.museumsandtheweb.com/glami-winners/.
