British Art Network: Applications now open for 2020 bursaries

The 2020 British Art Network (BAN) bursaries are now open for applications. The network, funded by the Paul Mellon Centre and Tate, brings together professionals working on British art including curators, researchers and academics, reflecting the combined strength of the UK’s public collections and curatorial expertise in this field.

The bursaries are intended to cover activity from October 2020 to June 2021 and applications close on 14 September 2020.

Emerging Curators Group Bursaries
Bursaries of £1,000 are available for fifteen people to form the next phase of the Emerging Curators Group. Being part of the group involves attending a number of workshops over a nine-month period, as well as between-session communication amongst the group to share ideas, make new professional connections, build confidence in skills and examine the role of the curator today. The group is looking to bring together all kinds of people, particularly art workers who are under-represented in the curatorial landscape. Find out more.

Sub-Group Bursaries
Bursaries of £2,700 are available for members of the network to lead existing or new network sub-groups. Sub-groups should hold at least three events, with at least two of these being held online. Applications are particularly welcome on the themes of decolonising British art and on British art, Ireland and the devolved nation. Find out more.

Two-Day Seminar Bursaries
Two bursaries of £7,000 are offered for members of the network to devise and deliver two-day seminars in late spring 2021. One day should be held online, while the others can be online or in person. The seminars will bring together professionals working with British art across the UK and at different stages in their career. Find out more.
