New Issue of British Art Studies Now Published

The latest issue of British Art Studies, our digital open-access journal, is now published and available to explore online here. Included in this issue:

One Object

A special feature, co-ordinated by Keren Rosa Hammerschlag, which uses Joseph Maclise's Surgical Anatomy as a focal point for exploring Victorian anatomical atlases. The feature includes six articles (two of which are part of the Objects in Motion series supported by the TERRA Foundation) and three new films.

Animating the Archive

Part one of a two-part series that looks at the Slade School of Fine Art as the starting point for a global microhistory. The interactive archive, featuring materials from multiple institutional and personal archives in Asia and the UK, is accompanied by a narrative history titled ‘Slade, London, Asia: Contrapuntal Histories between Imperialism and Decolonization 1945–1989’, written by Liz Bruchet and Ming Tiampo.
