Launching the British Art in Motion Film Competition

Are you an undergraduate student, and would you be interested in making a short film about a work of British art?

British Art in Motion is an exciting new film competition for undergraduate students, designed to generate creative and thought-provoking short films about significant works of British art or architecture, from all periods. It gives students the chance to explore the possibilities of film-making, and to experiment with the ways in which film can be used to offer new ways of engaging with and interpreting works of art.

For ten successful entrants, British Art in Motion will provide:

• free, specialist training in film-making
• funds to make a short film about a work of British art
• the chance to show the resulting film at the Paul Mellon Centre’s new annual Film Festival
• the opportunity of being named as the overall winner of the British Art in Motion student film competition for 2021–22
• a prize of £1000 for the winning film, and prizes for the runners up

The deadline for applying to the first round of the competition is 5pm on 27 January 2022.

Eligibility

British Art in Motion is open to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled at a university in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands and are aged 18 years or older as of October 1 2021. The competition is geared to undergraduate art history, art, or film students in particular; but we also welcome applications from other UK-based undergraduate students.
