The Fleming-Wyfold Art Foundation library donation is now fully catalogued on our online library catalogue.
The collection consists of 250 books and exhibition catalogues on Scottish art and artists, particularly those of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. There are books on Jacobite drinking glasses, the art of the Highlands, the Scottish Colourists, and the Glasgow Boys and Girls. It includes catalogues of the exhibitions of the Royal Scottish Academy, the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and the Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine Arts. There are also catalogues from private galleries in Scotland such as the Scottish Gallery, Bourne Fine Art and Ewan Mundy Fine Art. The collection has some books on corporate art collections as well as books and exhibitions on the Fleming Collection itself. Artists featured in the collection include: Craigie Aitchison, Charles Avery, Wilhelmina Barns-Graham, John Bellany, Elizabeth Blackadder, John Byrne, Steven Campbell, Alan Davie, Graham Fagen, Peter Howson, Kenny Hunter, Callum Innes, Jock MacFadyen, Will Maclean, Alberto and Leon Morrocco, Eduardo Paolozzi, Anne Redpath, Lucy Skaer and Alison Watt.
The material was donated to the Paul Mellon Centre by the Fleming-Wyfold Art Foundation in December 2019 as a contribution to building an unrivalled resource for British art studies open to all.
The Fleming-Wyfold Art Foundation was established in 2000 by members of the Fleming banking family who wished to secure the collection of Scottish art, which had been built up since 1968 to hang in the offices of the family bank in recognition of its founder, Robert Fleming, who hailed from Dundee. The library has been built up since 1968 as part of the Collection’s daily business and to support research into works in the collection. From 2000, the Fleming-Wyfold Art Foundation, a registered charity, has been endowed to care and enhance the Fleming Collection.
