Witnessing Slavery Wins Historians of British Art Book Award

The Paul Mellon Centre publication Witnessing Slavery: Art and Travel in the Age of Abolition by Sarah Thomas has won the Historians of British Art book award for 'Exemplary Scholarship on the Period after 1800'. The winners were chosen from a nominating list of seventy books from thirty different presses and of Witnessing Slavery, the HBA said it was a "compelling examination".
Another publication, supported by a Paul Mellon Centre publication grant, also won an award. The Place Is Here: The Work of Black Artists in 1980s Britain edited by Nick Aikens and Elizabeth Robles won the 'Exemplary Multi-authored Book' award.
