This newly created role will support the Paul Mellon Centre’s initiatives by cataloguing the library of Paul Oppé (1878-1957). You will also assess the importance of individual items within the collection and make recommendations about any long-term conservation needs and promote the collection via the Centre’s website, newsletter, social media and other means.

The library consists of 65 bankers boxes of books and auction catalogues from the collection of the art historian and art collector, Adolph Paul Oppé (1878-1957). The library, together with his archive, was allocated to the Paul Mellon Centre under the Acceptance-in-Lieu scheme in 2017. The subjects covered reflect Oppé’s research interests and include Renaissance art, watercolours and drawings of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, British art in general, artists' monographs and biographies, Italian guidebooks and art collecting. The publications include books and rare auction catalogues and date from the late eighteenth to the mid-twentieth century.

Salary will be in the range of £30,000 to £33,000 per annum, pro rata depending on experience.

This post is a 9-month fixed term full-time contract starting in July 2019 and the hours of work are 35 per week. The Centre would consider offering the post as a secondment.
