John Singer Sargent Catalogue Raisonné Joins Art & Architecture ePortal
- 1 April 2025
Richard Ormond and Elaine Kilmurray’s catalogue raisonné of John Singer Sargent’s paintings and watercolours has entered a new phase of life on Yale University Press’s Art & Architecture ePortal. As the publisher of this landmark nine-volume work, we have been proud to support its development over many years. This new digital edition, published in 2025 to mark the one hundredth anniversary of the artist’s death, ensures that the most comprehensive scholarly record of Sargent’s paintings is made widely accessible to researchers, enthusiasts and collectors around the world.
Bringing this momentous work of scholarship to the ePortal’s online platform introduces transformative research capabilities, from advanced search functionality to high-resolution image viewing and cross-referencing tools – enhancements that were unimaginable when the first volume was published in 1998. Researchers can now engage with Sargent’s extensive oeuvre in new ways, encouraging fresh insights and perspectives.
The Sargent catalogue raisonné has long been a cornerstone of scholarship on the artist, and this digital re-publication will ensure that it remains accessible and relevant for generations of researchers to come. We are pleased to have collaborated with Yale University Press on this project and look forward to seeing how this edition encourages fresh perspectives and deeper engagement with Sargent’s work.
