The Paul Mellon Centre funded publication Landscapes of London: The City, the Country and the Suburbs, 1660-1840 by Elizabeth McKellar has been awarded the Elisabeth Blair Macdougall Book Award by the Society of Architectural Historians.
Every year the SAH present five award honouring the most distinguished publications in architectural history, landscape history, preservation and architectural exhibition catalogues. The Elisabeth Blair Macdougall award, won by Landscapes of London, is awarded to the most distinguished work of scholarship in the history of landscape architecture or garden design.
Landscapes of London traces the growth of London's suburbs back to the 17th century when domestic retreats were established in outlying areas, providing the first major interdisciplinary cultural history of this area, analysing it in relation to key architectural and planning debates and to concepts of national, social, and gender identities.
