Mark Girouard (1931–2022)

All of us at the Centre were saddened to hear of the death of the great architectural historian Mark Girouard. We are enormously proud to have published Mark’s recent book, A Biographical Dictionary of English Architecture, 1540–1640 and to have supported the publication of his classic text Elizabethan Architecture. Last autumn, we marked the publication of the former book by filming an event devoted to Mark’s remarkable life and career. An Evening in Celebration of Mark Girouard, which sparkles with Mark’s celebrated intelligence, wit and charm, is all the more poignant to watch, with the news of his passing.
