New Advisory Council Member

The Paul Mellon Centre is pleased to announce the appointment of a new member of the Grants & Fellowships Advisory Council.

Viccy Coltman is Professor of eighteenth-century History of Art at the University of Edinburgh, where she has worked for the past two decades. She specialises in visual and material culture in Britain in its imperial and colonial contexts during the second half of the eighteenth century and into the early nineteenth century.

Viccy has written three monographs and edited and co-edited two volumes of essays. Her most recent book, Art and Identity in Scotland: A Cultural History from the 1745 Jacobite Uprising to Walter Scott (Cambridge, University Press, 2019; paperback, 2021) was shortlisted for a Historians of British Art book prize. Her next book project, Wartime, offers an art-historical overview of the Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars with a focus on Scottish commanders and Highland regiments.

Viccy is a Fellow of the Royal Historical Society and a Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries of Scotland and London. She is a Trustee of the Jacobite Studies Trust.

Having been the recipient of PMC fellowships at postdoctoral, mid-career and senior level, I know first-hand how invaluable it can be to immerse yourself in your research for a sustained period of time.
