Once again the PMC is looking forward to being part of the Association for Art History Conference 2019, taking place in Brighton from 4–6 April. The Centre will be taking part in the following activities during the conference:
AAH Book Fair
Thursday 4 April & Friday 5 April
The Paul Mellon Centre will be at AAH 2019 with an exhibition stand at the book fair showcasing some of our recent work. Stop by to talk to members of staff responsible for the PMC's publications, our Grants & Fellowships programme, and our library and collections.
Drinks reception: We will host an informal drinks reception at the PMC's stand on Thursday between 4-5pm, all are welcome!
Public Sculpture in the Expanded Field
Session, Thursday 4 April, 10.30am — 3.30pm
An interdisciplinary session, convened by Sarah Victoria Turner (PMC) and Martina Droth (YCBA), which seeks to draw upon the energy of current debates about the role of public sculpture to develop new frameworks for interpretation. Speakers include Rebecca Peabody (Getty Research Institute) and Brenda Schmahmann (University of Johannesburg).
Diaspora Artists and British Art History: Intervention-integration-expansion
Session, Friday 5 April, 9.20am — 12.30pm
During this session, senior research fellow, Hammad Nasar, will be present a paper titled "Expanding Britishness: Curatorial interventions in re-entangling histories", which will reflect on two ongoing projects attempting to expand the 'British' in British Art History; the collaborative research project 'London, Asia' (PMC, 2016-19) and the exhibition 'Speech Acts: Reflection-imagination-repetition' (Manchester Art Gallery, 2018-19).
