The first large-scale monographic exhibition on Thomas Gainsborough in Germany is currently on display at the Kunsthalle in Hamburg. Thomas Gainsborough: The Modern Landscape features over forty paintings, including iconic works such as Mr and Mrs Andrews. It concentrates on Gainsborough’s role as a pioneer of modern landscape painting, but also includes a substantial showing of drawings and prints.
The Centre’s Director of Studies, Mark Hallett, has contributed a chapter to the exhibition catalogue, which is edited by the show’s curator, Christoph Martin Vogtherr, Director of the Hamburg Kunsthalle.
The exhibition has also enjoyed the support of the Centre’s Fellowships and Grants programme, receiving a Publication Grant in Autumn 2017 towards the catalogue’s publishing costs.
The exhibition is on until 27 Mary 2018. For more information please click here.
