Two Paul Mellon Centre publications, Nicholas Hilliard: Life of an Artist by Elizabeth Goldring and Thomas Gainsborough: The Portraits, Fancy Pictures and Copies after Old Masters by Hugh Belsey, have been shortlisted for the William MB Berger Prize for British Art History 2020, in association with the British Art Journal. The prize is awarded for an outstanding work of British art history published in the year 2019, and the shortlist of six outstanding titles has been selected from a longlist of nearly thirty books.
Another shortlisted publication, Roger Fry and Italian Art by Caroline Elam, was also supported by a Paul Mellon Centre publication grant.
