Write on Art 2022 Now Open

  • 10 January 2022

Art UK and the Paul Mellon Centre are pleased to announce the launch of the 2022 cycle of Write on Art. The prize is now in its fifth year of running a successful art writing competition that encourages students aged 15 to 18 to develop crucial visual literacy and writing skills.

This year’s judges are Director of the Ingram Collection and the co-host of Sculpting Lives podcast Jo Baring, artist Sutapa Biswas, and Arike Oke, cultural leader, archivist, and curator.

To enter the prize, UK based students in Years 10, 11, 12, and 13 are asked to select one artwork from the Art UK website that captures their interest and to share their excitement with the reader. Students in Years 10 & 11 must write 400 words that focus on what they see in the image. Students in Years 12 & 13 must write 600 words that not only includes what they see but also discusses the context in which the artwork was made.

Applications can be made online via the application portal from 10 January until 30 June.

More details on the competition, terms and conditions and how to enter can be found now on the Write on Art website at www.writeonart.org
