- 25 January 2023
Art UK and the Paul Mellon Centre are pleased to announce the launch of the 2023 cycle of Write on Art. The prize is now in its sixth year of running a successful art writing competition that encourages students aged fifteen to eighteen to develop crucial visual literacy and writing skills.
This year’s judges are art historian, critic and author, Ruth Millington; artist, Samson Kambalu; and Director of the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Sarah Munro.
To enter the prize, UK-based students in Years 10, 11, 12 and 13 are asked to select one artwork from the Art UK website that captures their interest and to share their excitement with the reader. Students in Years 10 and 11 must write 400 words that focus on what they see in the image. Students in Years 12 and 13 must write 600 words that not only includes what they see but also discusses the context in which the artwork was made.
Applications can be made online via a submission form which can be found on the Art UK website. The closing date for applications is 30 June 2023.
More details on the competition, terms and conditions, and how to enter can also be found on the Art UK website.
