This collection contains files on sculptors working in Britain or on British subjects from the 16th century to 19th century. Photographs are of sculpture as well as sketches for sculptural projects. There are separate boxes for the following sculptors: Bacon Junior and Senior, Chantrey, Flaxman, Gott, Nollekens, Roubiliac, Rysbrack, Scheemakers and Wilton / Wyatt.

Photographs have been acquired in particular from The Courtauld Institute Photographic Survey. Other sources include salerooms, museums and galleries. The files include original photography commissioned from our own in-house photographer, Douglas Smith (1964-1966) for Paul Mellon Centre publications for which we still hold the negatives. We have also received donations of photographs from a number of academics including Joan Coutu and the former photographic archivist Evelyn Newby.
