Write on Art
Please submit your writing by 11:59pm on 30 June 2025. Submissions after this time will not be accepted.
Click the “Apply Here” button below to go to the competition’s application portal. You will need to set up an account before beginning your application. Use the “How to Apply” document at the bottom of this page for guidance about how to set up an account and submit your application correctly.
Key rules to remember:
- Choose an artwork from the Art UK website to write about. We cannot accept entries for artworks that are not on the Art UK website.
- Please do not go over or under the word limit by more than 10%. Entries that do not adhere to the word limit will be disqualified. However, if you are submitting a poem for the Creative Writing category, you are welcome to go more than 10% under the word limit for your age group, as some poems can be shorter pieces of writing.
- Please use the Submission Form provided at the bottom of this page to submit your writing to the portal. Do not include your name or any personal information in it. This form must be anonymous.
- Please ask a responsible adult (teacher, care worker, youth worker, counsellor, parent or a relative over the age of nineteen) to sign the Responsible Adult Form at the bottom of this page. You must then upload it to the application portal. Any submission without this form will be disqualified.
- We are committed to ensuring this opportunity is open and accessible to all, and there is a budget in place for helping the shortlisted writers to attend the Young Art Writers Workshop. This might include financial support for travel and accommodation, a professional assistant, or whatever support is needed to ensure they can take part in the Workshop fully and comfortably. If you are unsure whether our provision will cover your needs, we would be very happy to speak about it. The twelve shortlisted young writers will be consulted about any support they require upon being informed of their success. In the meantime, please contact our Learning Programme Manager, Rachel Prosser, at [email protected] if you would like to discuss this further.
