British Art in Motion
Eligibility
British Art in Motion is open to undergraduate students who are currently enrolled at a university in the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man or the Channel Islands and are aged eighteen years or older as of 1 April 2025.
A formal education in art history is not essential. We are interested in hearing ideas from students with a range of backgrounds and perspectives, studying any subject, at any UK-based university, in any year of their course. However, your film proposal must engage closely and critically with visual art.
The subject of your proposed film must be a single work of British art or architecture, from any historic period. We encourage all applicants to think expansively and critically about how “British art or architecture” can be defined. For example, a proposal for a film about textiles created by an artist from a country that was colonised by the British Empire, or a film about a spoken word performance by an artist who was born outside of the UK but has lived, or is currently living, in the UK, would both be eligible.
As an institution, we are committed to ensuring that the histories of British art are enriched through actively seeking and sharing a variety of perspectives so that they are made more relevant to a broader range of people in the future. Subsequently, we particularly welcome proposals that include subjects, narratives and experiences that have been marginalised or excluded in the past.
While we recognise that filmmaking is often a collaborative process, submissions will only be accepted from individual applicants.
If you are uncertain whether your chosen topic would be eligible, please get in contact with the team at PMC.
Terms and conditions can be found attached at the end of this page.
