Spring 2025 – Mark Crinson
- 13 January to 25 April 2025
- Paul Mellon Centre
This course introduces you to how empire is shaped and represented in London’s public spaces, both concerning the official monuments of empire and in terms of anti- or post-colonial re-imaginings of the place of the monument in London.
It looks at:
- monuments gifted to Britain and then subject to new contexts designed for them
- the continuing urban presence of imperial set pieces
- the remains or fragments of colonial exhibitions
- buildings and monuments associated with anti-colonial figures and movements and
- post-imperial immigration and its urban and public art forms
