The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, 1769-2018
This research project centred on the development of the ambitious online publication, The Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition: A Chronicle, 1769-2018, which was launched in the spring of 2018. This publication, edited by Mark Hallett, Sarah Victoria Turner, and Jessica Feather, was designed to complement a major exhibition devoted to the history of the Royal Academy’s annual Summer Exhibition, which opened in the summer of 2018. Entitled The Great Spectacle: 250 Years of the Summer Exhibition, and curated by Hallett and Turner, this display took place in the Academy’s newly expanded and interconnected premises in Burlington House and Gardens. As well as editing the online chronicle, Hallett and Turner, with the help of Feather, also wrote a catalogue to accompany the display, entitled The Great Spectacle: 250 Years of the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.
