Public talk to mark the start of a weekend conference around the importance of ceramics in historical and contemporary art. Invited international researchers and artists will share new insights into the ongoing influence of St Ives ceramicists.

Tanya Harrod is keynote speaker for Friday evening, her writing on craft and design includes The Last Sane Man a biography of the potter Michael Cardew for which she was awarded the James Tait Black Prize for biography.

Weekend Seminar: Seminar looking at contemporary and historical approaches to ceramics, £25

Coinciding with the current exhibition That Continuous Thing: Artists and the Ceramics Studio 1920-Today, the seminar will showcase current research, making and presentation in three key areas – The Exhibition, The Object and The Studio.

Tanya Harrod is keynote speaker for Friday evening, her writing on craft and design includes The Last Sane Man a biography of the potter Michael Cardew for which she was awarded the James Tait Black Prize for biography. Speakers include Katharine Stout, Deputy Director ICA, Katie Schwab, artist and current Wilhelmina Barns-Graham Trust resident at Porthmeor Studios, Richard Slee, artist, Aaron Angell, artist and co-curator of the exhibition, Sarah Victoria Turner, Deputy Director for Research, Paul Mellon Centre and Simon Olding, Director Crafts Study Centre.
