In association with the exhibition at the Dulwich Picture Gallery, the Centre is co-organising this one-day conference. The conference will present new research, taking a fresh look at Wilkie's spectacularly successful career, and exploring his work in the context of the broader history of genre imagery in Scotland and England in the Romantic period. The conference will conclude with a private view of the exhibition.
Speakers will include Paul Barlow (University of Northumbria), Matthew Craske (Oxford Brookes University), Duncan Forbes (Scottish National Portrait Gallery), Duncan Macmillan (Edinburgh University), Harry Mount (Oxford Brookes University), David Solkin (Courtauld Institute of Art) and Nicholas Tromans (Sotheby's).
