Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon

This all-day event is designed to improve coverage of gender, feminism and the arts on Wikipedia. The edit-a-thon will include tutorials for the beginner Wikipedian, ongoing editing support, reference materials, and a sandwich lunch. People of all gender identities and expressions are invited to participate, particularly transgender and cisgender women.

In a 2011 survey, the Wikimedia Foundation found that less than 10% of its contributors identify as women. This lack of inclusive participation has led to an alarming gap of content in the world’s most popular online research tool.

Art+Feminism’s edit-a-thons and other initiatives make an impact on the gender gap through crucial improvements to gender, feminism and art related subjects on Wikipedia. Since 2014, Art+Feminism edit-a-thons have taken place across the world, creating and improving over 11,000 articles.

We will focus on British women artists, art historians and collectors. A list will be sent in advance.

Feel free to add to the list or bring along your own ideas and resources. We have carefully selected this list of artists based on three factors:

1. Do they already have a full Wikipedia entry?
2. Do we have the resources to help you to add to the entry?
3. Are they a British woman?

10:45am–11:45am – How to edit a Wikipedia entry with Stuart Prior, Wikimedia UK

11:45am–12:30pm – Start editing in groups or individually

12:30pm–1:30pm – Lunch

1:30pm–4pm – Continue editing

4pm–4:15pm – Tea and coffee

4:15pm–5pm – Continue editing

5pm–5:30pm – Wrap up
