A still from A Humbrol Art, a film about George Shaw by Lily Ford Please join us for a trip to the Holburne Museum in Bath to visit the exhibition 'George Shaw: A Corner of a Foreign Field'. The day will feature a special tour of the exhibition led by the show's curator Mark Hallett, Director of Studies at the Paul Mellon Centre, and artist George Shaw. There will also be plenty of time to explore and discuss the Holburne Museum's wonderful collection together.

'George Shaw: A Corner of a Foreign Field' spans three decades of Turner Prize nominee George Shaw's prolific art practice. His paintings focus on the Tile Hill estate, a post-war development on the outskirts of Coventry, and the ancient woodland surrounding it. Steeped in modern and historic fine art traditions, Shaw’s work alludes to twentieth-century painting and photography, and the legacy of such European masters as Titian.

We are delighted to be able to cover UK travel costs for DRN members joining us on the trip, and attendees will also receive complimentary tickets to an event at the Holburne Museum that evening when Mark Hallett and George Shaw will be in conversation.

We hope that this trip will provide DRN members with an exciting opportunity to spend the day with fellow PhD students, to visit the exhibition, and to discuss the works with the artist and the show's curator.

Any questions about travel logistics or timings, please don't hesitate to ask. For those unable to stay for the talk in the evening, you are more than welcome come for the day only. Likewise, attendees are welcome to join the group later in the day if they have prior commitments in the morning.

'George Shaw: A Corner of a Foreign Field' has been organised by the Yale Center for British Art in collaboration with the PMC and the Holburne Museum.
