This talk will give a background to George Bubb Dodington and his villa and the circumstances of its rebuilding and interior decoration in the 1740s and 50s. Our focus is the reconstruction of a tripartite Doric garden pavilion commissioned for the gardens by Dodington from Robert Adam in 1761-2. This was partially built but is now lost; 9 drawings for the pavilion are in Sir John Soane’s Museum. We will present a digital reconstruction of the structure created directly from the information in those drawings and discuss aspects of the design which reveal this pavilion to be unique in the Adam oeuvre.
