Drawing Room Display event Secondhand Daylight: A Display by George Shaw
In this special event, the film-makers Lily Ford, Jon Law and Jared Schiller will present and discuss the short films they recently made to accompany the exhibition George Shaw: A Corner of a Foreign Field (Yale Center for British Art in New Haven/Holburne Museum, Bath). Innovative, lively and intriguingly varied in their perspectives, the films provide a rich set of commentaries on the artist and his work. Ford, Law and Schiller will explain how they approached their projects, and explore the challenges and opportunities of making films on contemporary art and artists.
In addition, Shaw himself will talk about the fascinating display of books, albums, badges and posters that he has curated at the Centre, and that is entitled Secondhand Daylight. Designed to accompany the exhibitions at Yale and the Holburne, this display offers not only a glimpse into the artist’s teenage preoccupations and obsessions, but also an idiosyncratic introduction to British youth culture of the pre-internet era.
