- 30 September 2019
An international conference organised and sponsored by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art, the Henry Moore Foundation, Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios (HAHS) with underwriting support from the Terra Foundation for American Art.
This conference will present new research and scholarship centered around artists’ preserved homes and studios in the United States and United Kingdom. Over two days, colleagues from museums, historic sites and academia will discuss the challenges and possibilities of working with these unique and often idiosyncratic spaces. Papers will address how research is informing new approaches to the curation, administration and interpretation of artists’ studio homes and the impact of this research for the broader field of art and social history. Although focused on sites in the UK and the US, the discussion will reflect on international networks and perspectives in a bid to advance knowledge and future stewardship of these distinct resources.
This is a collaborative program sponsored by the Paul Mellon Centre, Henry Moore Foundation and the Historic Artists’ Homes and Studios Program with underwriting support from the Terra Foundation for American Art. The conference is convened by Hannah Higham (HMF), Valerie Balint (HAHS) and Sarah Victoria Turner (PMC).
