Please join us to celebrate a series of prize-winning titles recently published by the Paul Mellon Centre.

There will be a short talk about each book and the research behind it, followed by the opportunity to ask questions. Afterwards, there will be drinks, canapes and a chance to meet the speakers:

Adriano Aymonino, whose book Enlightened Eclecticism: The Grand Design of the 1st Duke and Duchess of Northumberland won the twentieth annual William MB Berger Prize for British Art History

Henrietta McBurney, whose book Illuminating Natural History: The Art and Science of Mark Catesby won the 2023 Historians of British Art Book Prize for a single-authored book with a subject between 1600 and 1800

Mark Girouard, who died in August 2022, won the Society of Architectural Historians of Great Britain’s 2022 Colvin Prize for his Biographical Dictionary of English Architecture, 1540–1640. Kyle Leyden, who was Mark Girouard’s research assistant, will speak about the process of publishing the dictionary.

Manolo Guerci, whose book London’s ‘Golden Mile’: The Great Houses of the Strand, 1550–1650 won the 2023 Historians of British Art Book Prize for a single-authored book with a subject before 1600

Todd Longstaffe-Gowan, whose book English Garden Eccentrics: Three Hundred Years of Extraordinary Groves, Burrowings, Mountains and Menageries was named Apollo’s 2022 Book of the Year
